UWSP Esports Center – Stevens Point, WI, USA

UWSP Esports Center – Home of UW-Stevens Point Esports Club: Varsity-Style Lounge for Console & PC Esports
Opened in September 2023, the UW-Stevens Point Esports Center is located in Room 104 of the College of Professional Studies (CPS) Building, marking the university’s first dedicated competitive gaming facility. Outfitted with 12 high-performance PCs (165 Hz monitors, NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 cards) and 2 Nintendo Switch consoles, the space serves students, faculty, and staff with free gaming during daytime drop-in hours, while hosting varsity-level esports practices in the evenings.
As a university facility, it is open exclusively to current UWSP students, faculty, and staff, with no general public or neighboring community access available.
The venue is home to the UWSP Esports Club, which fields teams across League of Legends, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In just its first year, the program won the NECC Challengers Division National Championship in Overwatch 2, reflecting rapid organizational growth and competitiveness. Club leadership encourages inclusivity—students from any background or skill level are invited to join and propose new game titles for official teams. Daytime operations run daily from 12 PM to 6:45 PM, assuming staff availability; after 7 PM, the space transitions to varsity and club practice or competition use. The facility supports both free play and reserved sessions, and the university is actively improving the space with additional branding and an esports broadcasting area planned for the near future.
Under the guidance of founder and IT staff member Dylon Lyons, the esports program has emphasized community, collaboration, and student leadership. The Overwatch 2 championship, early expansion of team rosters, and plans to stream matches from a casting room show a program committed to growth and visibility. In summary, UWSP’s Esports Center blends a modern, inclusive facility with competitive rigor—providing both accessible recreational play and varsity-level structure in a small-town campus setting.
