UVM Intramural Esports & Gaming Collective – University of Vermont’s Space for Casual-to-Competitive Gaming & Tournaments

UVM’s Intramural Esports & Gaming Collective offers a vibrant offshoot of traditional campus recreation. Open to students, faculty, and staff, this program provides a casual and inclusive entry point into esports, structured through UVM’s Campus Recreation system rather than formal athletics or club structures. Leveraging familiar intramural formats, it features popular titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Rocket League, Mario Kart, League of Legends, and Overwatch, with events ranging from weekly Smash tournaments to organized Rocket League and Overwatch competitions—often held in social, high-energy spots like the Group Fitness Hub and Center for Multimedia Development (Howe Library).

As a campus recreation program, it is open exclusively to current UVM students, faculty, and staff, with no general public or neighboring community access available.

Operating entirely online—especially during recent semesters—UVM Campus Rec supports esports participation through remote formats using student-owned hardware. It also hosts online tournaments via IMLeagues and Discord, ensuring gaming remains accessible regardless of location. The spirit of the Gaming Collective emphasizes camaraderie and creativity. Beyond structured play, UVM’s Gaming Collective encourages imaginative game design, social gaming nights like Jackbox or DDR, and shared game-themed experiences during orientation programs like UVM GO—a three-day gaming-centric “choose-your-own-adventure” initiative for incoming students to foster connections and community excitement around gaming campus culture.
