Esports Club – Competitive Facility with Scholarships & LED-Lit Arena at Bethany College

Bethany College, a small private liberal arts college nestled in rural West Virginia, has embraced modern gaming culture with gusto. Its Esports Club serves as a spirited hub for competitive and casual players alike, equipped with a vibrant state-of-the-art Esports Arena complete with LED lighting and immersive audio. The space supports both casual play and organized competition, fostering an energetic atmosphere that resonates with the college’s tech-forward ethos.

As a college-managed facility, it is open exclusively to current Bethany College students and club members, with no general public or neighboring community access available.

The club competes in a broad array of popular titles—including Rocket League, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, CS:GO, League of Legends, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, Apex Legends, Call of Duty, NBA 2K24, EA FC, Tekken, Madden NFL, Teamfight Tactics, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and more. Diversity in game selection reflects the club’s commitment to inclusivity, catering to players with varied interests and skill levels.

Bethany College provides generous scholarships specifically for esports club members—one of several co-curricular awards aimed at supporting student engagement beyond the classroom. The college also recently introduced a new academic offering: a minor in Esport Gaming Management (ESPT), launched in Fall 2023. This program is designed to prepare students for careers in the gaming industry, covering event management, marketing, game distribution, and project planning through courses developed in partnership with Unity and the International Game Developers Association.

In November 2024, Bethany hosted its inaugural Esports Camp, a full-day event held in the new esports arena. Students participated in workshops on communication and game strategy and competed in Rocket League, Overwatch, and Valorant sessions—underscoring the college’s dedication to experiential learning and community engagement.
