Lancer Esports Lab – Competitive Junior College Esports with Varsity Dedication & Educational Programming at Eastern Wyoming College

Founded in March 2024 under coach Caleb Spitzer, the Eastern Wyoming College Esports team quickly established itself as the state’s premier junior college esports program. Located in Activity Center 228 on EWC’s campus in Torrington, WY, the lab supports varsity-level competition alongside educational programming and community outreach initiatives. In its inaugural season, Lancer Esports competed in the NJCAAE league and earned the No. 1 national seed in Fortnite, concluding the spring 2025 season as national champions—an impressive achievement for a program less than two years old. Though the team’s flagship title remains Fortnite, Lancer Esports is expanding toward Tier 1 competition by adding Madden and Mario Kart based on growing student and community interest. Incoming players have attained Blizzard’s “Unreal” Premier ranking—a rare global achievement facing only 0.2% of Fortnite’s player base.

As a campus-based athletic facility, access is restricted to current EWC students and team members, with no general public or neighboring community entry available.

The program emphasizes regional collaboration, recently partnering with the University of Wyoming’s Esports Club and UW’s Center for Blockchain & Digital Innovation to bring a tech-forward esports coalition to schools across the state. This strategic alliance bridges competition with workforce development in emerging industries. As NJCAA Tier 3 competition transitions to Tier 1 status, Lancer Esports aims to recruit 30+ team members statewide, expand multiplayer titles, and establish dual-enrollment pathways for remote students—positioning itself as both a competitive force and a development driver in Wyoming esports.
