Alaska Esports Center at UAF – PC, Console & Varsity Gaming in Fairbanks
The Alaska Esports Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Wood Center stands as Alaska’s premier collegiate gaming hub, blending competitive varsity play with casual community sessions in a welcoming student union space. This state-of-the-art facility, launched in March 2021 with GCI’s $500,000 commitment for 1 Gbps (upgraded to 5 Gbps) internet, draws students, faculty, alumni, and Fairbanks locals for PC rigs, consoles, and VR fostering everything from team scrims to social hangs.
The center is open to the general public alongside UAF students, faculty, staff, and alumni during Wood Center hours (Mon–Thu 9 AM–9:30 PM, Fri 9 AM–10:30 PM, Sat noon–10:30 PM, Sun noon–6:30 PM), explicitly welcoming the Fairbanks community for drop-ins and events with no membership required.
Outfitted with 12 gaming PCs, four console TVs (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch), and Oculus VR setups, it supports varsity teams in League of Legends, Valorant, and more, hosting tournaments, mystery game nights, learn-to-play sessions, and high school competitions. Managed by the Center for Student Engagement, it’s a comfortable, open space where everyone can come game and hang out with scholarships for Alaska high school champs and ties to UAF’s Sport Management minor.
